Default Alpha One Gen 2 Outdrive Drive shaft 0-Ring replacement

I have removed the top plate off the upper part of my Alpha One Gen outdrive. Going to replace the drive shaft 0-Ring which seems very straight forward. When I removed the top plate there was no gasket/membrane between the plate and the outdrive. Is there suppose to be something there? Perhaps there is a sealant or gasket material that should go down before placing the plate back down? There was water squirting out of a few places along the joint between the plate and outdrive. This all prompted me to start looking for a solution. Any suggestions / input would be helpful. THANKS!

The top bearing support plate is sealed with an o-ring. I suggest you get the Mercruiser manual for the drive which is located under Documents.
