Alfa4 G2 oil

Good afternoon!
I have a question on adding / filling a Alfa 1 G2 with oil!
Can you fill it from he bottom plug without removing the top plug and let bleed back through the oil monitor?
Can you remove the top cover and fill it from the bottom the same as removing top plug?
I can not remove the top plug!
Any and all help welcome!

when i did mine last, i removed the top cover and filled from the bottom. worked just fine.

Donald ...you need to get that top screw out. This let's the air out when you fill the drive from the bottom hole and let's you know the cavity on your drive is full. So figure that one out first!

When you do get that top screw out , pump the fluid until it dribbles out and cap the top screw then cap the bottom one. Then fill your engine compartment oil canister up to the top line. When you go out for the first time take a quart of drive fluid with you cause it will go down a little.

So get that top screw out first!

Only fill it from the bottom.

Have you tried a little heat to remove the upper plug?

I know that it needs to come out to fill normally, but was hoping I could fill it until there was oil in the area under the top cap!
What I get for having a mechanic work on it before it was brought down to ca.
The guy was recommended by a salesman.
It looks like he never removed the top plug, he states that he replaced the oil and the pump impeller, I can tell that he did remove the lower unit, who knows what he did
to the tune of $1550.00, I should know better.
Just have to kick myself in the back side!

And try an impact driver. The kind you hit with a hammer, not an air impact.

The impeller would have been on the raw water pump. The Outdrive uses gear lube, not oil. If the mechanic indicated he changed the oil, I would assume he is referring to engine oil.

You can remove the outdrive without draining. If there is no line item for lube or mention of changing drive lube, then I suspect he didn't change it.

He said he changed the impeller, gear lube hose, shift cable and shift cable bellows and added 4 qts gear oil! Good trick as per Mercruiser manual it only hold 64 oz. Which is a half a gallon, not a gallon!
Question!
Can you change the shift cable without removing the drive?
I have never worked on a Alpha1 G2 before, all of my limited experience is with older models.

Yes that is a great tool! Used to have and and some others that worked on outdrives. But lost all of my tools in the Butte fire here in Calif. last year!

No lower shift cable cannot be changed without removing the drive.

Gear oil is for the outdrive. you would certainly need the drive off to replace the gear lube hose, shift cable and shift cable bellows.

Yes I know ! I was able to remove the top plug, and it is low on oil! Don,t know how low as I have not add any to it!
To many things to do to get it in the water!
Working on replacing all the brakes and installing a electric/hydraulic brake unit!
To hot here to work all day! only get a few hours in the mornings!
