Default 95 merc 115 elpto starter issues

Was out running fine all day sunday, stopped to take a phone call, went to restart and all I could here was winding. It seems to be free but not enough to engage. Any ideas or just replace it? I found some other brands, are any better than the next?

I'm thinking your talking about the starter....if that's the case it sounds like the starter solenoid or the bendix....can easily be repaired...pull the starter and take it to a shop..they can test it and replace if necessary..make sure it's marine rated......

If the solenoid is shot the starter would still be able to spin?

Thanks I'll pull that first and see if that works.

Put the new solenoid in and it still does the same thing. I'm going to pick up the new starter and try that.
