other y pipe, almost gone as well
Just incase, thought we should check its condition before the engine goes in, and sure enough it was almost ready to go, same place, down low, no way to see it without removing the Y Pipe. Seems over 29 years the engine vibration has worn down the flange where it bolts to the Transom Assembly. Will get a picture. Managed to find a like new used for 500. Engines go in tomorrow now.

They shouldn’t be charging you if they can’t perform the work due to Covid.

yard is separate
my mechanic doesn't work for this yard, it's basically just a haul out pad.

my guy survived
Mechanic is back at it, with covid gone. Needs to install new fuel pumps for some reason? I have carbs, but apparently I need some electric fuel pumps now. Shouldn't be too long now. Risers and exhaust manifolds are getting pressure tested, cleaned and machined at a shop, fingers crossed they're okay. Should be, less than 2yrs old.

Pre Vortec blocks allowed the use of mechanical fuel pumps while the Vortec blocks don’t. I had to do the same as well as wire in an oil pressure switch that provides power once the engine is running and will remove power if it stalls thereby not risking a fuel spill. This is a Coast Guard requirement in the US.

Congrats on biting the bullet and getting everything fixed.

Good Luck.

under 20k
Depending on when I finally get her back in the water, should still be under cad $20k and I'm almost done restoring the cabin mostly with my labour. When done, yes I should trouble free for a while.

No. Usually the issue is the principle tied up in the current boat. To sell a boat to offset the cost of another only works when the boat is sellable. A boat with one or no engines ends up being a giveaway.
The paradox is, once you repower, it is almost impossible to get the ROI back. So it's a loose loose. The cheapest path is usually to repower the boat, then keep it for at least 5 years. Then sell it.
This is one of our reasons for always getting too much boat and growing into it. It's also one of the reasons we buy older boats.
Once your stuck with a repower, you can live with the boat for the next five years.
Repowering a boat that you are about to, or have already outgrown sucks. Ask me how I know.

Water came from exhaust ports
Small amounts of water came out of each exhaust manifold port. We set it up so these should be dry. Sending my almost new manifolds and rises out to be machined true and will try bolting it up again. End next week now earliest.

both sets of exhaust manifolds pressure tested good
Finally get my less than 2yr old manifolds and risers back on today. Pressure tested them at a machine shop and they are not the reason I got water in my new engines. Going to bolt it all up again, cross my fingers, toes, pray (even though I'm religious) and hope this is finally over.

Hopefully you have several trouble free seasons ahead.
