are you talking about the clunk or chunk when it goes into gear??..that's normal....if it grinds and sounds like sand grinding away...that's not good...you see...there is no clutch for you to engage the fwd/reverse gear...so there is an engine cut out which momentarily cuts the engine while you shift..the clunk is the gear synching and slipping into gear....to be sure your not doing any damage...you can pull the oil plug at the bottom of the drive and check some of the oil for any metal shavings.....
