5.0 merc cruiser

i currently have a 99 maxum 2400 with a 5.0 merc. i somewhat dont trust the motor i have now. if i went to a 5.7 merc what else would i have to change other than dropping in the motor? is the transmission for the 5.0 the same for the 5.7. also by installing a 5.7 what will the boat gain besides speed? im not really a speed demon.

Being a 99 the 5.0 engine should have an electric fuel pump as will a Vortec 5.7 however a pre Vortec will not. Not sure the two engines require the same gear ratio, would need to research that. You didn’t say what drive you have but the Alpha is rated up to 300 HP.

What is my current horse Power on .5.0 and 5.7.
If i were going 5.7 should I go gen 2 alpha 3?

My 2008 Merc 5.0's are rated at 260 HP

5.0 carb is 220 HP, 5.0 MPI is 260 HP, 5.7 pre Vortec is 260 HP, 5.7 MPI is 300 HP.
