Got my 2000 2400 SCR today after replacement of brand new carburetor, tested on water runs great! missed the first day of shrimping here in Puget Sound though. Took old carburetor back, took it apart, couldn't believe the amount of corrosion accumulated inside, flaky... blocking the crevices inside... not worth rebuilding it, I'm glad I decided to go for a new one. What cause the corrosion, ethanol? any suggestion to prevent that, thanks...
If truely corrosion I would suspect water in the gas. Ethanol can absorb more water than old gas but from what I understand the area you live in has a high moisture contentmost of the year so condensation could also be a factor. Either way using a gas treatment should help.
