Question 454 CID 7.4L Horizons

I want to change the coolant in the engines but I find that the Starboard engine has Dex-Cool and the Port has what appears to be plain anti freeze? I would like to standardize on 1 coolant for both engines. All recommendations and help is greatly appreciated.

I'd go with the dex-cool in both engines....makes life so much easier...

Thanks SP. As usual you are right there with help and advice. Should I completely drain each engine before I add the Dex-Cool? Seems to me to be the correct action. How about changing the T stats while I am at it?

thanks..that would be the preference..while your doing both out...now would be a good time to change the t-stats out...plus any other maint. you have planned...like water pump impellers...fuel filter..oils...etc..

Thanks always for your input and experience. Being a retired "ARMY" guy I did not have much to do with boats. Now parachutes and the various jungles is more to my experiences. I do love boating.

Hi SP,

I have a long relationship with the NAVY. Been in several joint operations with several SEAL teams. I was a team leader of an "A" team 5th Special Forces Gp and also attended some SEAL training activities at Little Creek, Va. Stayed away from boats for 20 years now look what has happened to me.

haha....F5...sounds like you had some fun....I was involved in the detail design of the SSN683 special ops boat for a few yrs...back in reagan's day...then eventually got to Newport news shpbldg and helped design the SSN21 Class of boats...
was raised back there in the Norfolk area along with being a navy brat...we traveled all up and down the eastern seaboard...so..been around ships and boats all my life in one form or another....

I knew we'd suck you army pukes into the boating community someday!!..hahaha

SP,

No.... I do not know what that nomenclature refers to.

I am referring to the Naval Special Warefare Boat Support Unit(s) . Under this program, and my 2nd tour in VN we had joint ops with UDT and SEAL units using the PTF's. That's about all I can remember except for "fastest damn boat I ever rode in"....

those would be fun to ride in though...
