Default 3000 SCR Throttle really tight

I just got this boat and the starboard side throttle is really tight...takes a much larger amount of force to get in between F/N/R. Just wondering if this is normal with this boat or if its something I should get looked at. Port side is a little better.

First welcome to the website SM.

I have a 01 3000 with bravo ll's and I get them adjusted about every 3 years. You didn't say what you have but even if you have the alpha's you need to get them adjusted by a merc mechanic.

It might be only thing that is needed is a fine tuning or you could have parts worn out.

Good luck and let us know how all this turns out.

Roger

Yes they are! Have you had the boots replaced yet?

I just sold my6 30 ft Maxum. I had problem with Port side. Didn't bother me as I was used to it. new owner got mechanic to check it. He said a part was bent and replaced it. problem solved.

This is typically either a kink in the cable or corrosion. It happens. You can backtrack for kinks, tight radius bends or something pinching the sheath. Next a little cable lube might help. lastly is a cable replacement. They do need to be replaced occassionally. If you replace them, I suggest replacing the drive shifter cable as well, though that requires the boat be hauled and the drive removed.

Its pretty easy to check if its the control cable (from shifter to engine) or the shift cable (from engine to drive).
-) Make sure your shifter is in Neutral when you start this procedure.
-) Locate where the control cable connects with the shift cable on your engine. The shift cable is the short one that goes to the transom
-) Disconnect the shifter cable from the control mechanism. Make sure you don't spin the adjustment barrel.
-) Start your engine and move your shifter from N to F, then back to N, then to R. If it shifts smoothly, its not your control cable.
-) Put the shifter in N, and ensure your engine is still idling
-) Now go to the shift cable in the engine area, a small pull/push on the cable is all it will take shift the drive into F and R. Be careful here.
-) If it doesn't shift easy (and I mean it takes really no force at all), then your problem is either shift cable or something with your drive. At this point, you need to have the boat out of the water for further testing.
