Default 2006 maxum 1800 mx beeeeeeping !

Just bought the boat. Took it out and turned the key and all we got was a long consistent beep. Arched the starter and that got the boat running but i dont want to have to start the boat like that. Any thoughts on where to start?

So the battery is strong enough to start the boat if power is applied directly to the starter, correct?

If correct then that leaves the ignition switch, neutral safety switch, and slave solenoid.

Is the shifter in neutral and or the shift cable disengaged?

Do you hear any clicking when turning the key? If not measure the low current yellow/red wire on the slave solenoid for 12V when cranking. If 12V is there measure for 12V on its High current (thick) yellow/red wire, if no voltage replace the solenoid. The solenoid is located next to the engine breaker.

Let us know what you find from here.
