Question 2004 Maxum 1750 SR

Hello friends! Last season while on the lake my boat suddenly started to run really loud. I’ve had 3 guys look at it and they all thought the exhaust manifold was the issue. After trying a few things we decided to just replace it with a brand new one and it didn’t change anything. I’m taking it into a place but they don’t have availability until November. I would like to try and find it myself if possible. Does anyone have suggestions on how to search for an exhaust leak that isn’t related to the manifold?

Welcome aboard!

Knowing what engine you have would be helpful but I’m going to assume it’s a Mercruiser 3.0. I would not have thought the manifold as the issue since it’s water jacketed and you didn’t mention any water leaking. I would suspect the exhaust pipe to the inner transom plate. Although if you have an exhaust bellows instead of the tube and the bellows tears the exhaust will be louder.

You assume correctly! And there wasn’t any water leaking. Do you have any recommendations how to check for leaks on exhaust pipe?

If you are not accumulating water in the bilge I doubt the leak is inside the boat. I recommend you inspect the exhaust bellows on the outside.
