Default 2002 Maxum 2500 SCR Heat Soaked

My boat runs great with a little gas and 2 people.

Throw in 6 people and a tank of gas and when the boat comes off plane, it is unable to get back above 30000 RPM again until it cools down.

Boat wont go above 3000 RPM, no matter how much throttle once it heats up.
I am dropping my propeller down from 22pitch to 20 and hoping that might help.

My question is why are the vents on the side of the boat covered in with what feels like cardboard????
I know the 1 side is used for bilge blower, but the Port side is blocked off???.
Should it not have a screen and be open to allow for cool air to enter and circulate????

Appreciate any input Thanks.
Grant

Vents should not be blocked,as they provide air for the engine and to vent any explosive fumes from the engine bay.

I am wondering if they are supposed to have louvre covers, or vent or just a screen.
Just bought boat 2 months ago, manual tells me nothing.
Thanks for the feedback.

They should have some kind of louver to keep rain water out but still provide air flow through engine bay.
Photos would help.

The previous owner may have blocked the vents to prevent insects from building nests in there during winter layup.

I will get some pictures tomorrow.

I plan on pulling what ever is blocking the vent, as I am sure there is not enough air flow for the motor when it is running hard.

I will leave the other side, now that I have connected the bilge hose that was just sitting in the engine bay connected to nothing.
Running the bilge blower would have done nothing to remove explosive gases.

Thats why i am questioning everything i find.

Look forward to boat running a bit cooler, but still concerned about what should be there to keep water out.
Thanks again.

It's called a vent for a reason. They should be open to air flow.

Problem fixed: Wrong prop on boat.
