Default 1996 maxum sr2000

Hello all! I just signed up for this site and it looks amazing! I have a 1996 maxum sr2000 and I have been having issues this summer. The boat will start right up and run for about 15 minutes and then start losing power and eventually dying. It will fire back up usually but continue to die. I've changed the fuel filter and done some other things not too engine savy lol. Maybe bad fuel or any suggestions? Thanks!

Natediz1 welcome aboard.

Did you change the filter in the carb as well as spin on filter?

Crude in the gas tank may be clogging the fuel pickup. You may need to remove the pickup and inspect, it has a screen on it.

The ignition system could also have a thermal issue causing the engine go die.
Does it restart right away or do you have to wait some period of time?
Next time you need to see if it is a missing spark issue or fuel problem.

From my experience with cars, that sounds like a classic coil failing. It heats up and quits working. Not sure if a boat had the same issues....

Yep coils in boats can fail the same way.

Another possible cause could be a clogged fuel tank vent. Wasps have been known to build nests and clog the vent next to the fuel fill. Or the vent line can get build up in it. Break the line at the tank and see if it is clogged. Good luck and keep us posted. -JP

Thanks for all the advice. I'm getting a list of things that have been recently worked on and I'll post more! I know the fuel filter was changed but not sure how many filters there are. Could be a spark issue and yes it starts right back up almost everytime.

If it starts back up right away I doubt it is electrical.
Start with checking the vent for a clog as JP mentioned.
