Default 1996 2700scr twin v6

Ok new member here with a question.
I'm searching and not finding the answer yet. I just picked up a 96 2700scr with twins in it. Blown head on port engine and few other issue, but finally engines running great. Now we look at props and both turn clockwise when in forward.I always throught these would be counter rotating drives. Please point me to any information on this boat along with drives and props and any helpful information.
Thanks in advance
Jon

Welcome aboard

What drives do you have?

Are the props the same rotation?

Not uncommon to NOT have counter rotating drives in older boats.

It has the alpha one drives on it
And was freaking out...
Thought all were counter rotating and was about to test it out today and flipped out thinking the guy swapped drives out and it was the wrong turn or wrong props
I'm glad to hear some are not counter rotating
Still having motor issues so no boat test today

If the labels are still on it there will be counter rotating if it is.

Is the rake of both props the same or is on Lefthand and the other right hand?

Both look to be right hand as far as I can tell

Ok so the drives and prop are both standard rotation.

What issues are you having with the engine?

Hi Mike
Sorry full story
I bought the boat from a guy and it had blown head gasket on port motor and few other issues
There was black paint on the transom around the starboard drive
My mechanic noticed both props same rake and drives turn same direction
He's not a "boat" only mechanic rather just one heck of an all around mechanic
So he looked at the drives and thought they would be counter rotating
We both googled the net and couldn't find anything supporting they would not be
So yesterday was the first launch day and I figured I'd get on the forum minutes before to see what I could expect if one was replaced with the wrong rotation lol
Anyway at the launch my trim wouldn't work and my port motor wouldn't get fuel so we put her back on trailer and went for a ride in another boat.
I was just unaware of the rotation on this particular boat
I've read spin in spin out and other theories, but not one manual or picture of drives for this boat on the web.
I found a few boats that list counter rotating drives and then the single engine props, but not one thing on NON counter rotation drives.
Hopefully mechanic will be able to get me set so I can launch next weekend and test her out.
Pass me any info you might have on the Non counter rotating alpha drive setup if you have any or personal experience. Any handling issues or stern walk or nuances
Thanks
Jon

I would think this boat would have counter rotating drives. It may have gone bad and the PO bought a standard rotating one to save a few bucks, counter cost more due to lower sell volume.

Counters are used to cancel out prop torque so the boat will walk a little just like a single screw. This is mainly noticeable at slow speed and when backing.

Trim not working, do you hear a click from the soleniod? Up or down?
Blue/white wire is up, green/white wire is down. You can use a volt meter to test. Common for soleniod's to fail at this age.

Lots of 80's and older boats did not have counter rotating props, just need to learn how to handle it. You can replace the drive and prop with a counter if you have the $'s and want to as its the drives where this occurs unlike older inboards that had counter rotating engines.

Mike
So the boat is a 96 would it come stock with counter rotating drives or non counter?
Just. Curious I can look for a used drive and prop and see what cost is, but if it's stock I'm fine. Just don't want to get it out on the water and it's a dog or hard to handle.
I'll trace wires. Have a lot to do on her still but wanted to get her out and make sure she floats and runs good before cleaning her all up.
I'll trade the wires. We bypassed the switch and with straight power bother drives move up and down so looks like wiring or switch issues.
I'll add that to the list, but they were working last week and nothing's been done to her since so didn't expect that at the launch yesterday.
So biggest question I have is are my drives stock as is or did someone swap one drive for a standard rotation drive and it's going to cause me major issues running or handling ?

Not sure about the drives but shrew should know and he will respond soon. I am pretty sure it came with a counter rotating drive. I doubt you will notice any handling issues on plane and minor walk at slow speed of 6 mph and reverse.

Did you bypass the trim switches at the helm or the soleniod's at the pump assembly? If the helm switch it could be a blown fuse located at the pump. If the soleniod's they could be bad, try hitting the switch a few time as bad soleniod's will work after a few try's then stop again.

Do you have the wiring diagrams? If not go to the Documents tab and find the merc manual for your boat.

We bypassed it at the pumps and didn't have too much time to mess with the wiring. I'll grab the docs and head back over to the boat this week and see what I find. I'm not a mechanic so I had my buddy do the head gasket and few other things. While he's fixing the starting issue I'll work on the wiring. Both of the drives wouldn't move so might be the main switch at the throttle. Doubt there would be one fuse for both motors, but I'll go read some on it.
Thanks and

You have two topics running in parallel here. (Drive Rotation and Drive trim pump). You might want to start a new thread.

I've seen boats without counter rotating drives. Most of those boats were from the 80's. A few were just someone replacing a leg with whatever they could find. I would have expected by 96 Brunswick would be shipping with counter rotating drives. The 3000, 3100 and 3300 SCR's from the same time period were shipping with counter-rotating drives. Admittedly I've never seen a 2700 with twins before, however that alone wouldn't dictate drive orientation.

As for the trim pumps, there should be a dedicated pump per outdrive. Each pump has two solenoids (1 for Out, 1 for IN).

Once in the OUT position will it go IN without being bypassed?

Does drive out and Trailer out BOTH not work?

Do they not work on BOTH outdrives?

The most common culprit for this problem is the solenoid. They are mounted on the side of the trim pump bracket. I have never seen more than one die at a time. All 4 dying together would be like hitting the lottery. I would be surprised if they are on the same fuse.

Hi Shrew
Ill track down the trim issue as I think it is in the throttle as you said all out at same time not so common. Also might be just a loose wire..
Didn't want to move down that road I really just wanted to hear that the 2700 either came with or without counter rotating drives and if they did and one was replaced what will be the outcome and what to expect.
Thanks for the reply and I will start a new thread on the trim if need be.
