Lightbulb 1995 Maxum 2100 5.0 engine block cracked

Need some expert advice, please.

I have a 95 21' open bow that is in very good condition except the fact that the engine has a crack in the block. This thing actually starts and runs great for the short period of time I had it running. With the boat being as old as it is I am hoping to come across a good deal on a used drop engine. I just need to know what engines will work without major modification. I would be fine with dropping in another 305 or even a 350. I know the 350 could be a bit much for the alpha 2 outdrive but I really just use it for cruising around the lake. I never open it unless the water is calm because I personally don't like getting beat to death. There is a 5.7 near me but its listed as a "MERCRUISER 5.7 ALPHA ONE GEN 0NE" complete engine. Will this work? If not, what should I be looking for? The current 5.0 has a 2 bbl carb. I attached a pic of the engine for sale.

The Alpha Gen II can handle 300-350 HP.

You should be able to use just about any 305 or 350, as long as they come with intake manifold and valve covers. Those are different for vortec vs pre-vortec engines. Yours should be pre vortec. If you buy a later engine, you will need a vortec intake with it.

You'll end up reusing your electronics and ignition and carb, and accessories.

I think the distributors are different as well, now that I think about it.

I did a repower last year from a prevortec to a Vortec and used my old distributor no issues.

Cracked Block ? Are you getting water in your oil making it milky or just water driping in bilge ?
