What is the rpms at 18-20 mph? Have you tried trimming the drive?

Trim tabs may help but they add drag so more rpms will be required. Water conditions such as going with and against the current if on tidal water will come into play.

I'm not sure much will help at 18-20. Maybe a Perfect Pass system.

18-20 is the sweet spot. Dip below 18 and most planing boats are quick to fall off plane. Get above 20, and it will climb out of the hole completely and the reduced friction shoots you up to 25.

With the change to the prop, 17", we are seeing 2800-3000 rpm at the desired 18-20mph. And yes it is right in the range of transition onto plane. It was windy the last time we went out and the problem was exacerbated by the wind. Putting a high$ speed controller is out of the question on a boat I paid $1000 for and dropped in a used motor. I have a Stingray Foil sitting on the shelf we plan to try and then smart tabs. The literature from the manufacturer states all sorts of benefits. Better acceleration, on plane faster, higher top speed, better fuel economy, more stable, eliminate porpoising(my wifes favorite benefit). Reviews and videos seem to support some of these claims and I have heard testimonials both ways. For me the proof is in the pudding and maybe I will give them a try.

More stress on the transom assembly components that they were not designed for, not a fan of those bolt on foils. Your boat your decision.
