Default 1.47 vs 1.62 Ratio on 5.7

Hello,

I need to replace my outdrive due to heavy corrosion. The boat is a 2003 Maxum SE 2400 that was recently upgraded from a 5.0 to 5.7 V8 engine. I need assistance figuring out if I should order the original 1.62 ratio that came with the factory 5.0 engine or go with the 1.47 ratio for the installed 5.7 engine. I believe the 5.7 engine is rated for 290 Horsepower. I'm looking to get best overall performance and reliability. My goal is to maximize the life of all components. I hope I never have to use sea tow, I'm terrified of getting stranded out at sea. lol. Please advise.

Regards,

Fritz

Welcome aboard

No question about it you need the gear ratio that matches the engine you have.

Thanks for the welcome. So do you think I should go with the 1.47 for the 5.7?

If the 1:47 is the ratio listed for the 5.7 of that HP range than yes.

I’ll try to look it up and see what I find, just kind of crazy right now with a few life issues.
