Default Transducer location...

Does anyone know where to locate the factory transducer for my 2002 MAXUM 2400 SCR. I have looked on the boat and can't seem to locate it??? What does it look like? Thanks!

Nick .......look in the engine compartment by the bilge pump. Should be a small black wire attached.

Other 2400 owners hopefully will chime in.

As Roger said it is in the engine compartment. It is a round puck bonded to the hull in front of the engine.

Hi Guys, wondering if the transducer for my 1996 Maxum 2400 SCR will also be located in the engine room? I think I see something that looks like a transducer hanging off the transom but it almost looks like it's just hanging there by a black cable and not actually screwed down. Hard to see as the boat is in the water.

I believe the factory install it’s transducers in the engine compartment, round puck but someone may have installed a replacement on the transom or it’s for an added electronic such as a gps/chart plotter.

Default cored hull / in-hull transducer placement?

Thanks Mike!

Does anyone know if the 1996 Maxum 2400 SCR has a cored hull or can I basically install an in-hull transducer anywhere that will remain below waterline?

Thanks!

Additional question - I also seem to have a helm switch for "Depth Alarm," and one that I think says "Depth," but there is no depth meter or ability to set the depth of the alarm. There's a hole nearby where I assume this equipment once lived. Anyone know what the original equipment was, so I can try to find a replacement? Thanks!

Hulls are solid glass not cored.
Most transducers (if fitted) would be in the ER as Mike mentioned.
In dash readout was a some version of the Standard Horizon D41. Maxum used separate switches to control the head unit. You may be able to source a new/old stock unit to install in the dash and add a new transducer.

Given your dealing with a 1996, I’m guessing the prior owner had a failure with the factory unit and may have installed a separate unit with a transom mount transducer.

Exactly! My 1997 2400 SCR has the in dash unit with the transducer mounted in the ER, it works but gets flaky (loses readings) at times.

Default thanks so much

You guys are great!

The reason I'm asking is that I just bought this boat but pretty sure there is no depth on the old GPS unit mounted at helm. And I can't seem to get charts working there either. I'll need to get a charts/depth combo unit installed but worried about having to haul out to get the transducer installed. I don't have a trailer and haul-outs and shop schedules are super booked right now. Really want to get out on the water instead lol

Thus I am wondering if in-hull units actually work, and/or other methods I've read about:

Sternmate: FAQ Transducer questions, replies. concerns. Transom Transducer Mounting Comments-Questions & Help
Seasucker: https://www.seasucker.com/products/transducer-mount
Using Starboard?: https://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-...t-water-2.html

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

In hulls work fine as long as they are mounted firmly to the hull Where there are no viols in the material. I run an Airmar P79 for my legacy depth sounder mounted a few inches away from the factory unit in the ER.

Thanks so much. What are viols?

I thought the Airmar equipment looked kinda spendy. I'm looking at a $119 in-hull unit from Garmin: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/573584

They say it's compatible with the affordable chartplotter/fishfinder combo I'm looking at, with the right cables. Does anyone have experience with this in-hull Garmin transducer?

Missed the typo. Should read ‘voids’

WRT the Garmin transducer, it’s description says it’s for flat bottom hulls with a max dead rise angle of 6 degrees.
Not certain, but I think the 2400 has a dead rise of close to 20 degrees.

With any V hull the transducer if mounted flush will be at an angle which produces an error of the actual depth. The deeper the water the greater the error. You can add a wedge between the hull and transducer but must be of a material that won’t attenuate the beam and as already mentioned no voids in the bond lines between it and the hull and transducer.

Thanks all.

I am wondering if it will be possible to locate this in-hull transducer right in front of my motor, if there's a spot that is more or less flat. I don't recall exactly what the hull looks like at that point.

Here's the area right in front of my engine in the ER, the only pic I have. I'm sorry I don't have better pics atm. It looks to me like the sea strainer/filter for the raw water pickup and a bilge pump are right in front of the motor.

Not a lot of room to locate another device there?

If I recall correctly mine is mounted about where your bilge pump is but on the other side.
