Default Tach doesn't work properly

1996 1900SR with full instruments. The tach basically doesn't work, although it gives some slight deflection and does increase a tiny amount with with RPM, but never more than maybe 1000RPM indicated even though I may be cranking a few grand. So it appears to be hooked up, just not working right. If it helps any the speedo performs the same way, but all other instruments work fine.

Thoughts?

Tach and speeddo havelittle in common.

Clean the tach wire (gray) terminals at tach and at coil. If this doesn't fix it the tach may need replacement.

The speeddo may have a clogged tube on the outdrive or the tube has come off where it connects to the drive in front just above te cavatation plate

A couple years ago I sent both tachs from my '98 3700 SCR back to the factory to be rebuilt. It took a little over two weeks but what was returned appeared to be brand new. There was not one scratch anywhere.

Sent by Spedo back to Faria under their repair program a few years back. Very little money and essentially new gage returned. http://faria-instruments.com/site_ma...0090L-9128.pdf Check the back to see who made them.
