Default Stock radio

1997 2700 SCR

So before I get out the jigsaw, is there a smart way to remove this POS stock radio? The face trim is absolutely glued solid and above is the shore power panel. When I tried to take apart the cabinets below, all fell away but the top plate that is under the radio

Never seen such a messed up mount. Any help appreciated before I carve it like a Thanksgiving turkey

If there's no way to get that panel off, draw a DIN sized hole around that shaft mount radio and use a cutoff wheel for the long runs and roto zip for the corners. You may need to cut those shafts off to get the roto zip flush in those areas. I just pulled out a Fusion DIN sleeve I have on hand, it measures 7 1/8" wide by 2 1/16" tall.

Not sure if you have your replacement radio ready, but there are tons of DIN sized options out there. I like the Fusion marine units best. I am adding the MS-RA70N to my 3300, it's $299 pretty much everywhere. Drop the "N" (MS-RA70) if you don't need NMEA 2000 capability, and it's otherwise the same radio for $50 less. The DIN cage is sold separately.

Thanks. I did some surgical cutting with the jigsaw and got it out. I ordered a DIN size Pyle to put in for the time being this season. I also got a trim ring to cover the "surgical" cut I made lol.

Thanks again

Ah great! I was worried about the recip blade thrashing around back there behind that panel - didn't know what wiring might be hiding / at risk.

BTW from looking at your pic, it doesnt look like your radio is a stock factory install, maybe previous owner or dealer install. the cut out for the radio looks a little rough for a factory install.
