Does it have an external amplifier? Because it almost sounds like the head unit is sending a power on signal to the amp and the amp is cycling.
Either way, seems that you'll be replacing either the receiver/head unit or the amplifier. If it does not have an am look for a unit made by the same company as the existing unit. That way it's much more likely that the swap and wiring will a straight forward plug-n-play deal. A replacement should't be all that expensive, certainly far less than B.O.A.T.
