So I was thinking...
Since my boat spends a majority of the day beached or anchored in cove or where ever, I am pondering the idea of adding another battery. One for all motor related functions, and the other for the stereo system (which also has yet to be installed. Wont miss the JBL junk..) We listen to music most of the day, but obviously the engine isnt running. My primary fear is getting a dead battery in the middle of no where, I can only expect my kids to paddle so far..
Is it worth the hassle, or am I thinking too much on this one?

twin batts are common....I have one for starting and one house batt....but due to us being docked all the time...we are always on shore pwr....
get a dual charger...and install in place of the existing one..then...install a 1/2/both type switch....that way you can shut the pwr off....while anchored somewhere..you can set to #2...then to leave..turn to #1 and start the engine......and go....pretty easy set up and if your not good at installing something like this...a local marina shop can do it in about an hr or so...

I feel confident I can do the install, just gotta track down the parts and figure out where to mount the 2nd batt. I am pretty limited on space as it is.

'03, 1750SR with the 3.0LX. We have considered upgrading to a larger boat with a cabin, as we are expecting child #3 in the spring. But, once you start looking at 22-26' boats, the Maxums are somewhat rare around here and really expensive.

Indeed sir, will do. It may be awhile though, too cold and too busy plowing snow here. Really coming down right now...

I have a jump start pack that was about 50 bucks. When I run the radio too long I use it to get her running!

I have had to use a jumper pack on occaision, but I dont like relying on them. I need a good project anyway, gets me out of the house for a few hours per weekend. And yes, I am STILL shoveling snow....

Hey,
Can you explain the dual charger?
Thanks...

I'm doing the same to mine, I'm fitting two batterys where my one was and getting a switch that does 1 or 2 or both
Don't see the need for the dual charger though really when running have it on both. when stopped and resting have it on two use batt one as a starter battery or emergency
When on dock or layed up on charge just put it back to both

That's the way I've got mine hooked up-marine starting battery in the #1 position and dual purpose blue-top in the #2 position to run accesories and stereo while at rest. When the boat's running, I switch to both-on and charge the system.
I was wondering what the dual-charger actually accomplished?

I belive its just a charger with two outputs to two batterys so it charges them independantly.
Just like having two chargers in one box

That makes some sense...if I still have to crawl in the bilge and hook up a charger, I don't mind hooking it up twice!
