Default Navionics

Good morning all,
I just purchased a Maxum 2900 and it has a Garmin 3205 along with a Northstar, currently only be used as a depth finder, but the screen is small and I cant make anything out. I checked on replacing the Garmin but it’s panel mounted and to replace one I would almost have to lose the Northstar and that would leave a large empty space. Has any one used Navionics with an iPad for plotting routes? How did you have it mounted? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I added a new Garmin to my 3700 over the winter and back it up with navionics on an ipad...your ipad has to be cellular, I think, for it to have a GPS chip but the cellular does not have to be the current. Right now, I'm just propping the ipad up somewhere on the dash but looking at some ram mounts to make it more permanent.

I used the RAM mount, as it adjusted to fit the various waterproof cases for the iPad.
Although Navionics will run on a WiFi only device, you don’t have the internal GPS for position when WiFi signal is lost. Go with a cellular as the previous post suggests.

I like the app for route planning and it’s pretty easy to transfer routes to the Garmin via Active Captain.

Do you have the Northstar and Garmin networked, so the depth info is available to the Northstar?

At this time the previous owner only used the Northstar for a depth finder, the Garmin was his primary mode of navigation.

It’s an x-grip model, I don’t have the exact model/part number.
