Default Looking to upgrade my Chartplotter/GPS/Maps 2008 2900 SE

I have a 2900 SE (2008) with the factory installed maps/charts/gps (can't remember the brand, its in winter storage but its been discontinued but was the factory install for that year).

Want to upgrade but not lose use of transducer / depth finder. Has anyone upgraded their system and recommendations?

I may leave the old unit in the dash (existing unit works fine for depth but GPS and maps are way off at times and want something more modern and capable).

Guessing I would also need to install a new sonar

Thanks.

If you are looking to keeping the in dash depth gauge and just upgrade the chart plotter, you can use the existing depth finder (and its transducer) to supply data to your new chart plotter. Even the older depth gauges support sharing information thru NEMA.

If your new chart plotter also has a fishfinder/sonar capability, then you will need to mount the new transducer to support it. The dash unit can then either be a repeater, getting its data from the new unit OR They can operate independently, provided their transducers are operating on different different frequencies.
