Default Garmin gps units

Recently bought a Garmin 740S touch screen GPS , has anyone had the unit freeze or lock up ? When this happens no action can be taken . Unit will not shut off from power button . Only way to restart unit is to cut power to the boat . unit will then turn on from power button . Any ideas ?

Hmmmm... While I don't have the same unit, I've never seen that kind of behavior. Maybe it needs an updated flash? Find your software revision (settings) and compare it to the Garmin site, possibly get a hold of their customer service. When my unit came out there were a couple of updates required before things leveled out. It's rock solid now.

Edit to add: Canuck beat me to it!

update , called garmin to see what they said . advised me to return unit for a fresh one . west Marine exchanged it no problem , they were great . Also new unit came with the latest 2.5 version software rather then the 2.4 on the last unit , this did the trick . the 740S is an awesome GPS .

Thanks for the update - and great to hear it worked out for you. We've been using our little Garmin all week around some foul reefs with great success. Even the wife said yesterday... if it died tomorrow we would replace it immediately. Very pleased.
