Default Galley Fridge Norcold DE 0051 not getting cold

Mine is humming all the time but not getting really cold (its in a 2008 Maxum 2900SE). Its about 18" x 18"

Do most people repair (recharge the refrigerant?) or replace them - they seem to be abo\ut $1000?

Thx

You can call someone. They will charge it. I may work, it may not. I had my AC charged and was still fine 2+ years later when I sold the boat. If it doesn't work, then replace.

Bite the bullet it's 14 years old buy a new one. Even though Amazon will have the cheapest price when they ship via UPS they will beat the living crap out of it so whenever you buy it from get it shipped by a trucking firm. Your best bet is the camping trailer center.

Thanks Shrew (& Roger) and you're both right.

I had my A/C unit recharged with R-22- what a difference -- and totally worth it in the July temps.

As for the galley fridge, unfortunately the Norcold DE 0051 is un-service-able by design (self contained and sealed, cannot be recharged).

The replacement for this unit is Norcold 751BB and I ordered one on eBay for $1500 CAD all-in (probs about $1200 in real money - $US). Also look at NovaKool if you need one, they may be slightly cheaper and they publish a conversion chart to figure out which unit to use whether you're replacing Norcold, Waeco or Vitrofrigo (Italian - I tried to get them to respond w/ Cdn distributor info, but no luck - our US cousins will probably fare better in that regard, our market is too small for anyone to have interest).

Just FYI if you're replacing your galley or cockpit fridge.
