Default Dimmer switch for 4600 SCB?

I want to put a 12 volt dimmer on the dinette lights. Has anyone sourced a dimmer to fit the original 4600 SCB configuration?
Thanks

I don' believe this is going to be possible in a 12VDC system. The traditional dimmer system works on resistance. In 12VDC system this will generate dangerous amounts of heat. This is not such a concern with a 110/120 VAC system which would have a relatively low amp draw. The newer type of dimmer works by cycling the light off and on. These are used in VAC systems as well.

I've never seen a DC dimmer and would personally never install one.

Shrew, 12 & 24 vdc dimmers are common (the one that dims your car dash lights for instance). I believe the early Maxums used a rotary dimmer ( http://www.go2marine.com/product/243...immers-iml.htm ) and I think (but not sure) the original light switches were Vimar marine switches.

Yikes, you are correct.!!!

Nothing like voluntarily adding resistance to a 12vdc system.

I don't see an issue with adding a dimmer just be sure it is rated for the amount of load (light fixtures) it will be managing and install it per the recommend instructions.
