Depth Sounder not working
Hi There
I am hoping someone can help, I have a 2800SCR (2000 model) which I have just bought.
I used it for the first time this weekend and discovered that the depth sounder is not working. It has power, when I turn it on I get a display of _ _ on the screen where I imagine I should be getting digits to tell me the depth. So on that basis I am hoping that the display is okay and that the wiring is intact.
Does anyone know where the sensor is located (I imagine that it is the standard factory one as the boat has been very lightly used and everything else is standard)? I am hoping that when I know where the sensor is, I can get that changed and see if it resolves the issue!
Thanks for any help folks, much appreciated
Kind regards
Jason

Sounds like a bad transducer which is mounted in the engine compartment and is a round puck.

Depth Sounder not Working
Thanks Mike
I'm guessing a 'round puck' is something that looks like it is bolted into the bottom of the hull? Sorry to be dumb but as you can probably guess I am not the most mechanically adept!
You wouldn't have a picture of the sort of thing I am looking for would you?
I am based in the UK and Maxum parts seem to be very limited, I am guessing that the part I might need to order will be a 'generic' one used on other boats?
Do you know the manufacturer, or will it be shown on the component?
Thanks for the help
Kind regards
Jason

Jason ... welcome. ...what most of us do is just put a new depth finder in and be done with it! I would also recommend a outside on the transom transducer instead of the puck set up that you have now. IMHO it just works better. All sorts of finders out there. From cheap to big bucks depending what you want.

The inboard puck are bonded to the inner hull, either do as Roger suggest or bond in a new puck unit.

Depth Sounder not Working
Thanks Mike, its sounding like the transom mounted inducer is the easiest option. I will investigate!
Thanks

JasonD,
Maxum really only made the deck and hull. Their sister company (Mercruiser) makes the engine and outdrive. All of the other systems are third party. Perko makes the nav lights and cleats. Todd makes the tables and Posts. Faria makes the gauges. Marine Air makes the Heat and AC. Jabsco makes the pumps. Dometic makes the heads and porta potties. Taylor makes the windshield. Bomar makes the hatches, etc.
The transducer and gauge are third party. I wouldn't worry that much about whether there are 'Maxum' specific parts, since they were never made by Maxum to begin with. Most of the companies that maxum sourced for parts are still in business. Brunswick tends to work with the largest companies in the industry and buys in bulk for all of their lines (e.g. Maxum, Bayliner and Searay, etc.)

Welcome aboard!!
First of all this is a three year old thread. I would go and submit your own thread with the questions you have about your depth finder. I doubt you will get anything from a factory depth finder manual.

Hi, I am curious how to adjust my depth sounder from what I believe is reading in metres to feet. Also bought a backup transducer for my fish finder and wondering where to epoxyy in hull transducer.
Thanks

Welcome aboard!
A new thread should have been started with you exact questions. You did not say what year or model of boat you have so we don’t have much to go on. Regarding of where to install the transducer I would find a spot in the engine compartment that is parallel to the surface of the water so the cone is shooting straight down and not at an angle.

Thankyou, I’m still learning how to use the forum. I just purchased a 1999 Maxum 2300sc cuddy. I would like to know if I can change depth finder from metres to feet and how to do so if possible.
