Bilge pump

Ok, this shouldn’t be so hard, but I got frustrated this weekend and had to walk away. But, I am splashing next week so I need to get this fixed. I need to replace my forward bilge pump and float switch.

I have factory black, brown, and brown with red stripe coming to the bilge.
The bilge pump has brown and black wires.
The float switch has brown and black wires.

I have a lighted switch at the helm.

Suggestions on how I wire this together! I am going back to the boat 4100 SCA) on Wednesday.

First verify brown with red stripe get power only when the helm switch is on. If this is correct wire it as follows.

Brown wire coming to the bilge from the harness gets wired to brown on float. Black of float gets wired to brown with red stripe and brown of the pump. Black of the pump to black of boats harness.

expanding on this question as having same issue. When the rocker switch is set to Manual , the brown wire is energized, when in automatic I get no power from the brown and no power from the Brown/Red. In your answer above, when you say the switch is on, are you referring to manual override or automatic position?

I had to get "expert" help and discovered that my switch was bad and had to replace that.

When in doubt, start at the source and start measuring inbound voltage and then outbound voltage at each 'hop'.

[Battery -> panel In -> Fuse/Breaker In -> Fuse/breaker Out -> switch In -> switch Out -> hot/ground In at device -> device]

Get a decent meter, such as a higher-end Klein or better. Learn how to use the meter for AC and DC voltage and amperage.
