Default 2005 Maxum 1800 SR3: Electrical problem?

My Maxum is not used often, has a new battery, and started a month ago, but now won't even squeal when I turn the start key to "on". Triggered the red circuit breaker, but can't imagine too much power causing an overload. I only have a dealer-installed JBL radio as an extra. Basic features.

I triggered the switch several times, got a click, turned the key and got a momentary start sound (high pitched warning sound you always get), but then the breaker triggers again.

I'm not an electrical expert, but can anyone give me any advice?

Something is shorting if the breakers going. The starter would be my first hunch as its new and may be faulty (worked for a few starts then failed)... This will be something you will need a dealer to investigate unless you are good with electronics.

Where abouts in the world are you? Have you a Mercruiser mechanic in the vicinity as they should be able to handle any major motor electrical issues as well as the basics of your boats electrical system.

Have you checked the voltage in your battery?
If you had your memory in your radio on for a long period of time and your battery was low to begin with it might have drained down. If you try to start the engine with a low battery the high amps drawn by doing this could cause your breaker to pop.
Try a charging your battery and see if it helps.
