Thumbs down 2000 Maxum 2300sc how to use dash and depthfinder

Hello. Newbie is here.
I have 2000 2300sc and I cant figure out how to use depthfindet and whatever else is with it. My depthfinder was working good until last week it started doing something funky. It would show something like 300, 299, 298 etc like a countdown that didnt seem like a countdown because it wouldnt change one digit out of a time and sometimes it would jump numbers and would continue going down. At times it would switch back to depthfinder on its own. I have tried holding depthfinder button but I think that I can only set a depth for alarm to go off. Can someone please explain what does that doal show and how to operate it.
Unfortunately I do not have an owners manual.
thank you
Syavik

The typical reason for this is the transducer. It is bonded to the inner hull in the engine compartment and the bond has developed a crack in it. Any voids interfer with the sounding and the result is loose of bottom which result in a high depth reading.

Most folks replace the transducer with either a exterior mounted on or bonding a new one near the old one.

What Mike said ...Syavik........I have a 01 3000 SCR and that is one of the first things I did was to put a good ole Huminbird depthfinder after I bought in 07. I put the new transducer on the outside of the transom and it works great!

Just left the old one where it is and occasionally I turn it on and occasionally it does work but for the most part it doesn't.

How much does it approximately cost? Easy to install? I have garmin 740s, should I connect to it? So you add a separate depthfinder and not using the one in the cluster?
Thank you

According to this data the 740s accepts a transducer.

Google 740s transducer and you will be able to price around.

Like Roger I use the depthfinder on my GPS combo and not the in dash unit although I always have it on as mine gives good reading 85% of the time just sits at a bad angle to read when standing.
