Default 1800 XR Port side transom electronic device?

Hi,

I have a 1992 1800 XR. I'm in the process of thoroughly renovating and titillating it (lockdown activity!). On the port side at the transom there is some sort of socket, in the same region as the fuel filler on the starboard side, there are two wires going to it but it's long since defunct, I was wondering what it is. Does anyone know? I've never found a need for it, whatever it is!

TIA,
Marcus

Yes, sorry, I should have done that. Inside it looks like a light bulb fitting with two contacts.

Exactly that, it’s for your pole all around white navigation light. See link.

Oh wow, thank you! I always wondered what that strange looking pole was for , I never guessed there was a bulb under that cover! Luckily I just kept it in the boat where it's always been. It isn't working of course but I'll sort it. Thanks so much :-)

Well, as I expected, it's completely knackered. It's fallen to bits and has been hacked about with a bit in the past anyway. I wonder if the socket is available as a replacement? It's an old Perko. If not, I wonder what I could plug/blank/use the hole with?

Operational nav lights are necessary and required.

You shouldn’t have much problem finding a new socket and pole to install.

Thanks guys, you're right, I do need a light. They may perhaps be easy to find in the US but more difficult here in the UK. I'll keep looking though. Thanks everyone
