Default Hi Folks

Just became a member!! I have a 5.7 L Mercruiser and I am having a major struggle with start-up. I usually will have to play with the throttle for some time before landing the stick in the correct position to crank. When its not in quite the correct neutral position, on start-up, it sounds as if the batteries have died..not the case though. Does any one have any info as to what this issue is?? I have checked the neutal safety switch for function and it appears to be working fine.

Thanks!!

Welcome aboard

When advancing the throttle to start the engine are you pressing the button to disengage the shift cable so that the neutral safety switch stays closed?

What year and shifter do you have?

Not clear what the problem is, does it not crank or crank but hard to start?
