Default Bought my Maxum today

Thank you the forum and its members. Both helped me buy my first Maxum a few hours ago. I live on the James River in Richmond Va and own a pontoon boat. I reckon it to a picnic table with a motor. Its a great boat for relaxing and bird watching. We have many American Bald Eagles on the river and enjoy viewing the many birds, turtles and deer. BUT with a top speed of 20mph there are also times we need more speed. So the wife and I decided to get a runabout. It seems around here people have fun visiting neighbors in very small boats some as small as 10-12'. I reserched the web and wanted a boat as big as 21'; something one person can manhandle around a dock. I scoured the adds daily for a few months untill I came across a 1997 Maxum1700XR with a 90 Mercury outboard. (I wanted an outboard for its winterizing properties). The boat was owned by serviceman serving his 3rd tour in iraq. He spent no time on the boat and it shows. Its been garaged kept by his father and covered its entire life. The boat has under 30 hours and recently had the water pump changed, carbs cleaned and a tune up performed. I have joined a few forums (GTO and antique tractors) in the past but only used them as a tool for trouble shooting and such. I enjoy reading others post and looking at the pics so I thought for a change I would take the time to say a little bit about my self and say hello to all.

As I said before...... from the pictures it looks like a sharp looking boat that was well taken care of. You and your wife will have to learn how to wax now since you have a fiberglass skin and not all aluminum. Good luck enjoying the rest of the boating season with your new toy!
