3x3 to a 4x3 Solas Prop Review.
Boat: 2002 2500 SCR- 5.0 motor.
I swapped my 3x3 stock 22 pitch prop to a 20 pitch 4x3 from Solas. 1.Temperature dropped 5 degrees on plane and lugging along below plane. 2. Always had to use trim tabs to come on plane, Now never. 3.Stock Max RPM=4200 RPM/ Now 4400 RPM sometimes up to 4600RPM. 4.Steering at low speed greatly improved. 5.Whole Shot: Pretty Exciting to put t midly. The Bad: I dont have a speedo or GPS to give a top speed comparison: But let me assure you my boat is much faster at 4400 RPM with new prop, than it was at 4200RPM with stock prop. Cannot compare fuel economy: But I was running the boat hard most of the day and honestly I was surprised I did not burn more than a 1/4 tank. My thoughts: A 5800 pound boat probably needs a 5.7 motor, or a smaller diameter prop to compensate for the reduced TQ of a 5.0 motor. This is not a upgrade, this is a must do for a heavy boat that is unable to reach its max RPM, and even for a tired motor it would be the ticket. My Thoughts. |
A brand new boat does not have a speedo?? How many hours on the engine?
