Performance/newb questions

1st time boat owner. I just picked it up and it’s super clean. The wife and I took it to a local lake today and runs great.
WOT was right at 4800, 43mph indicated. Played with trim a little but that’s it for top end, nothing more. Three bladed prop with a little bit of paint knocked off of one blade.
We plan to use the boat to tow inflatables, the occasional skinny skier, and family cruising. Not truly concerned with top end speed but I want to ensure the best performance.
How do I ID my drive ratio? The serial number and the top of the drive unit is hard to read. I’ve got no problem buying a new prop, just don’t want to waste money.
What is the long storage area just above and aft of the engine?
In the center of the boat floor, between driver/passenger seats, is an oval hatch. Is this just storage? A small live well?
