Escort trailer fenders???

My boat trailer is original (Escort)and is for a 1999maxum 1900 sr. Escort went out of business years ago. I was curious if any of you have replaced the original steel fender that were angled on the inside (against boat) with a set of plastic fenders? I can't seem to locate the original type fenders that had the carpeted angle backs on them. The last set i used, I tried to cut a standard galvanized fender and replicate them, but wound up cutting a groove on the tire and scratched th side of my boat from the lack of room between the fenders/tires/boat. I think it was the bolts holding the carpeted boards to the fender that did the damage. Since then I have went without any. I get my freshly painted boat back nexy week and need some fenders to keep the debris off of it. The trailer is a single axle by the way.
