Default Winterizing my 1989 maxum marine 1700 sr

Cant find anything in the books given to us from the previous owner & i need help asap-we got our first freeze warning for the season. This is my first boat so i have no ideal on what to do.

If you are that uncertain you may want to pay to have it done this year then do research for next year.

For starters add gas stabilizer to the fuel tank. You’ll need to run the engine to allow it to be distributed throughout the fuel system.

Do you have an outboard or I/O? This makes a big difference on the rest of the process.

Its an Inboard-thats when the engine is inside the boat right.

That would be an I/O, inboard/ outboard which is when the engine is inboard and the transmission drive is outboard.

I change my engine oil before I winterize because the oil becomes a little acidic from combustion blow by which occurs with all engines. After that you need to run the engine until it’s fully warmed up then you can use a winterizing kit to run RV antifreeze through the system. Note the engine must be fully warmed up to ensure that the thermostat is fully open otherwise the antifreeze will not run through the engine but only the exhaust. To verify you can remove one of the drain plugs on the engine block to see antifreeze come out. As you are doing this spray fogging oil into the carburetor, the flame arrestor must be removed to do so.

Does it have a heat exchanger (closed cooling)? IF so then no need to worry about the thermostat. If there is no heat exchanger then you definitely need to run the engine until it is warm enough for the thermostat to open.

If it is an IO then you can get some muffs and run the engine on a garden hose.
