Default Transom gel coat cracking

I have a 95 2700 With a 7.4 and B2 outdrive. I have multiple cracks in the gel coat emanating from the outdrive mount mostly on the starboard side is this something serious and how would I repair these

Thanks,
Todd

Hi Todd, haven't heard from you in a while. So you picked up another boat.

Are the cracks below or above the water line? I haven't seen cracks in this area before may have been caused by a grounding.

My concern is water intrusion, therefore first use a dead blow hammer to test for soft spots in the transom core. If Ok then use a dremel to open them with a tapered flare and use gel coat paste to fill.

Lol. Yes. Another project boat but actually its my roommates ...... he's going to sell it to me he just doesn't know it!!!! yet..hahaha... This boat has set in a boatyard for 9 years we picked it up at an auction.

All the cracks or below the waterline I haven't seen any cracks and it ran something like this before so it concerns me... I did tap on the transom and didn't hear any dead spots however I have learned from another boat that you can't always depend on the sound. I am seriously considering having a surveyor come over and check it out. I will try and take some pictures tonight

Good idea the surveyor can use a moisture meter to check for water however if its been out for that long it may be dried out and still have some rot. None the less a surveyor will find if any damage exists.

Mike, Here's the Link to the pictures https://theboat92.shutterfly.com/pictures/406 The cracks are not pretty now that I see them in a HD picture.

I think your spot on, he might have run aground hard or Hit something, I think he used to run up and down the Potomac River and you have to be very careful navigating lots of shallow water...

It's a little hard to get a reference but they look rather long, I would be concerned about transom damage as the core may have seperated.

Definitely get the surveyor
